Across the lifespan, the diagnosis is typically based on the presence of persistent deficits in two core domains: social communication and restricted, repetitive behaviors.
Evaluations can be helpful when there is lack of clarity or understanding regarding diagnosis of neurodevelopmental concerns. Testing helps better understand an individual's functioning,
as well as areas of strength and weakness. It can assist with identification of challenges that may be impacting an individual's ability to be successful in school or at work. Diagnosing neurodevelopmental and related psychiatric disorders in children and adults, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a complex and nuanced process. It has distinct diagnostic criteria, but can also exhibit overlapping features to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), making differential diagnosis crucial. Identifying the key differences and similarities among these disorders is essential for accurate assessment and effective treatment planning. Early identification and intervention can significantly improve outcomes and quality of life for individuals with these conditions.
